It's been a while. Sorryoooooo.
And I also want to apologize for any typos. Microsoft Word is being weird
so I'm typing this in WordPad and I don't think it knows how to spell.
Tim Kaine, the senator from Virginia, sent me a letter. It was real nice,
thanking me for what I'm doing and whatnot. Apparently he is continuously
applauding me, which is nice. It's good to know you have someone clapping for
you. I'll probably send him some beads or batik.
Well, let's see..... what has happened?
March:
I joined PCV Media. It's the team that provides you with all the awesome
videos and pictures you can use to promote your project or share it with
people. Basically I joined because editing and film has always interested me
and I know nothing about it. Little did I know the group is run (and started)
by a bunch of people who studied film. These kids really know what they're
doing. After going to a weekend long orientation, I feel like I may be in a
little over my head. I'm not even good with computers, but I have every
intention of putting 110% into it so I can add this to my repetoire of skills
lol. My contribution, so far, has been to screen print the t-shirts. It was the
first time I had screen printed. I tried to sell the shirts off as having a
vintage aesthetic (it turns out screen printing is a delicate art form and
can't be rushed). I don't think anyone bought it, but they were kind enough not
to complain about them to my face.
The school's second term finished at the end of March. One more term and I
am half way finished! Time is passing so quickly! I have some serious projects
to get done.
April:
April was busy! I am the new warden for Eastern Region, meaning if
something happens and Peace Corps has to contact all the volunteers, they call
me first and I make sure everyone else, in Eastern Region, gets the message.
It's a pretty good gig. I like having responsibilities, makes me feel useful.
We had our All Volunteer Conference. All the Peace Corps volunteers in
Ghana came together to discuss stuff. It was pretty neat. I was amazed at how
many volunteers I hadn't met yet. I had met the vast majority, but there were
still a few volunteers I had never seen before. Me and some of my girls had
matching outfits made. We rocked them! Since I am a clothes hoarder and the
fabric here blows my mind, I had a great time just looking at all the outfits
the other volunteers came up with. What a creative group of folks! Next year I
hope to blow some minds.
Right after All-Vol there was GLOW Camp. GLOW (Girls leading our world)
Camp is a camp that takes place in Eastern Region for Junior High girls. It was
SO MUCH FUN. I took 2 girls from my local JHS and it seemed to me that they had
a great time. I know I had a great time. I got to perfect my screen printing
skills, make a pinata mosquito, have a dance party, and watch a sweet talent
show. There were Ghanaian women who came and gave inspirational speeches and
craft time (ya'll know I love crafts). The girls got to tour a university and
meet other girls from all over the Eastern Region. It was a really good time.
What else made it so awesome was that all the talents the Peace Corps
Volunteers had were utilized. The born leaders led, the artists were put in
charge of art, the volunteers who excel at teaching taught. To me, it seemed
everyone found their niche and was happy there. The "Beastern" Region
rocked it.
And then at the end of April I went to America! It was so great. I spent a
week in Baltimore and then a week at home. I feel exceedingly spoiled and
blessed to have the family and friends that I have. There were many times I
looked around and I wondered why in the world were these people hanging out
with me? I mean, I try to be a good person, but do I really deserve such
hilarious, decent people around me? America did give me a sinus infection
though, which wasn't welcomed.
May:
I came back from America on May 15th. I spent 13 hours on a flight and
then, immediately after that, another 5 hours. It was a long journey but I made
it back in one piece. Lately, I have mostly been watching Game of Thrones, eating
M&Ms, and making preparations for my garden. STARS is coming up pretty soon. STARS is kind of
like GLOW, except it's for senior high school boys and girls, focuses on
leadership, and is for all of Ghana. I have to do media stuff for it, so I’ll
let you guys know how it goes.
